A Club with History

Leicester Hockey club has along history dating back to 1889. There were only two men’s hockey clubs formed in the Midlands before Leicester, in Solihull and Edgbaston. Some of Leicester’s foremost businessmen have been prominent members of our club. To name a few: Sir Frederick Oliver (Olivers Shoes), Sir Denys Stocks (president of the HA 1946-1951), Sir Clarence Sadd CBE (chairman of Midland Bank) and others whose names are well known in Leicester - Gee, Frisby, Pochin, Gimson and many others. Sporting achievement also featured in the early days with international honours to Sir Denys Stocks, Rev. Ranger, Dr Fitzmaurice, S M McCosh and Alec Wallace. Geoff Gee was an Oxford Blue, and Victor Pochin played for Cambridge. Many players both past and present have followed in their footsteps and many have also had the honour of playing for their county from under 13 upwards.

Leicester Hockey Club is proud of its origins and past and present achievements. The club is committed to the development of the game and making hockey available to all groups at all levels in the City of Leicester and county of Leicestershire.
